Daniel Encounters Jesus
Daniel 10:5-6
“Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked,
and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine
gold of Uphaz:” Daniel 10:5.
“Lifted up mine eyes and looked”
There have been many references to “deliverance”
symbols since the two visions began.
• Ram
• Medo–Persia
• East
• Cyrus
• Messiah
• Michael – soon to be
presented
Verse 5 is another – this is Daniel’s second
personal contact with Jesus (the first was in
• “Raising up the eyes
and then seeing” is a frequent prophetic expression.
• It refers to
something associated with the second coming of Jesus.
• What the
prophet sees is a message for that time.
• Daniel raises up his
gaze and he saw in front of him Jesus with a highly symbolic appearance.
This imagery parallels what John saw in
Revelation 1.

This picture represents when the mareh
vision will be fulfilled. It begins after the 2300 evenings and mornings and
ends when Jesus is:
• High Priest
• King
• Judge
Those three positions culminate in history right
at the end – at the coming of Jesus (Revelation
• We’ve been told that
this is for the time of the end
• It is given
specifically for God’s people
• Is associated with
Michael standing up
• Before Jesus returns
• At an appointed time
“And I Daniel alone saw the vision: for
the men that were with me saw not the vision; but a great quaking fell upon
them, so that they fled to hide themselves.”
Daniel 10:7.
Daniel’s friends could not bear to see Jesus.
They fled. We are not given the details except that they “fled to hide
themselves.”
• This draws on the
imagery of the wicked during the sixth Seal.
• At the coming of
Jesus: “And said to the
mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth
on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:” Revelation
The beginning of woes for the wicked begins in
another prophecy (Revelation
The above verse is meaningful. The word for
“vision” is mareh.
• This encounter with
Jesus is the last segment of that vision.
• It starts after 1844.
• It ends at His second
coming.
In the middle of the chazown vision,
describing the end-time hostilities and opposition toward the remnant:
• Comes this beautiful
mareh vision.
• Everlasting
righteousness will come in.
• Jesus will triumph on
behalf of His people.
Gabriel had told Daniel, “So he came near where
I stood: and when he came, I was afraid, and fell upon my face: but he said unto
me, Understand, O son of man: for at the time of the end [shall be] the
vision.... And he said, Behold, I will make thee know what shall be in the last
end of the indignation: for at the time appointed the end [shall be].... And
said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace [be] unto thee, be strong, yea, be
strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and said, Let my
lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me.” Daniel
Then a detailed message of opposition occurs to
begin the chazown vision.
What has happened? Jesus stands up in 12:1 to
deliver His people. Here in chapter 10 He comes to rescue truth. Jesus came and
rescued the prophecy.
• To all of God’s
people throughout the rest of history.
• Everything will end
exactly as God depicted.
